About Bloomfield, Connecticut
Bloomfield is a Gold Community proud to have received its third Bright Idea Grant. The first was used for a town energy audit the second for LED lighting in town buildings and the third for a light bulb swap where 4000 LED light bulbs were given to Bloomfield residents. We have a vibrant Home Energy Solutions program for residential energy improvements and are working with local businesses to help with their energy efficiency and conservation as well. We're also working toward a HERS program for new construction. Bloomfield is proud to have worked with Eversource to replace nearly all of its streetlights with LED bulbs. The town-wide LED streetlight conversion program is 100% complete. 1874 cobra fixtures were converted as part of this program but there is no immediate plan to convert the few remaining street lights at this time. Eversource has yet to adopt a replacement LED head for those poles. We expect that this may occur in the next 24 months though. Bloomfield continues its community re-use efforts through an active textile recycling program. In partnering with Bay State Textiles Bloomfield residents are able to recycle textile materials normally not collected under traditional programs allowing the items to be processed and reused in other forms. Similarly Bloomfield has installed electric vehicle charging stations at two of its public buildings encouraging residents and patrons to utilize this green-energy alternative when conducting business in town.
