To produce our data and graphs, we make use of the EIA’s Short term Energy Outlook reports.
The consumption model for New England forms the basis upon which we apply adjustments for Connecticut heating fuel prices. We use the regularly updated Connecticut fuel prices provided by the EIA.
We’ve also incorporated the U.S. Census Bureau’s Public Use Microdata Sample from their latest American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates (2019). This survey provides extensive detail about home sizes and heating fuels used in different cities which helps localize our calculations. For estimates adjusted for efficiency, we make use of Eversource’s energy efficiency calculations found here for electric heat and natural gas heat savings.
We’re actively making adjustments to our models and plan on providing further details as we progress. One key objective for future work is the integration of real customer utility data shared by partner organizations like Operation Fuel in order to more accurately produce utility price estimates in each city. Please use the feedback form for for further questions.
