About Ridgefield, Connecticut
The Town of Ridgefield joined the Clean Energy Communities program in 2015. The town of Ridgefield population 21300 covering 34.8 sq. miles is located in southwest Connecticut on the New York state border. In 1708 inhabitants of Norwalk purchased the large area southwest of Danbury from Ramapoo Indians. The 20000 acre tract was surveyed in the following year and the original 25 proprietors were then assigned individual plots by lottery. The town was incorporated in 1709; the borough and the town were consolidated in 1921. Always primarily a residential enclave the town is especially noted for the beauty of its very wide main street laid out at an unusually high elevation level in the 18th century. . Ridgefield remains residential today although with a greater population density than before because it is served by New York Metropolitan area commuter links. It is the location of Wooster Mountain State Park.
